Catherine started her career as an academic, digging into questions concerning the place of women and girls in the public sphere before pivoting into digital in the early, pre-influencer days of new media when women's digital communities looked as though they might reshape the future (spoiler: they have, and they will continue to do so). She worked in online publishing, community development, and digital consulting, supporting organizations like Intel, J&J, and the United Nations Global Fund in engaging women before moving from Toronto to NYC to lead content and community as Editor in Chief at Babble Media.
In 2011, Catherine led a charge within Disney to meaningfully engage and empower women and girls. In 2015, she founded Demeter Media, a research and media development company dedicated to new models of inclusive community development and social innovation, developing purpose-driven content and experiences and providing support to organizations looking to engage female consumers. From Demeter Media came Project Girl Quest and girlLABS, non-profit programs for diverse young entrepreneurs and innovators, and Maverick, a digital creative network for girls and young women (named one of Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies in 2019).
